		<description>The immune system is made up of many different cell and it’s job is to protect the body from outside invaders such as viruses, bacterium ,funguses and other pathogens. It does this by recognizing an invader and initiating an immune response to destroy them such as when one has a cold. In the case of autoimmune diseases the immune system mistakenly initiates a immune response toward the persons own cells and tissues. This causes inflammation which can then lead to damage to the cells and tissue. For instance, if this immune response attacks the covering of a nerve it might lead to scarring and the nerve cannot function normally. This might result in multiple sclerosis. If the self attack is against the liver it may result in autoimmune liver disease. This is the underlying cause of more than 80 autoimmune diseases. On the other hand if the immune response is toward a virus it is called an infection and the immune systems tries to clear it from the body. If the immune response is toward an outside protein that is not a pathogen but rather a protein found in the environment of in food and is either breathed into the lung or enters the gut by eating the response is called an allergy. This can cause asthma or food allergies. Most people do not make an immune response to these proteins but people who are allergic to them do. An immune deficiency occurs when there is a low number of certain cells that are part of a normal immune response and people with this condition have low immunity and this condition is called immune deficiency. Some viruses like the AIDS viruses can cause immune deficiency because the virus has destroyed the very cells of the immune system that would fight infection. To sum this information up:

1. An immune response to pathogens is normal and protects the body.
2. An immune system that over responds and attacks one’s own self is an autoimmune response which is normal but when this responses goes overboard it leads to autoimmune diseases.
3. An immune response trigger by a allergy is an allergic reaction of the immune system to offending protein to which the person is sensitive.
4. An immune response that is low and cannot defeat invading infections is an immune deficiency.</description>
