Do any of you moms have Multiple Sclerosis or know anybody that had it when pregnant?

I’ve had MS since I was 19 and 24 now. I’ve had my son through pregnancy. But I may be pregnant again. We’ve been trying for 3 months and have had no period for 12 days now. I’ll find out tomorrow, but my upper left leg has been numb for about 3 months (symptom of MS) and just wondering if your symptoms really subside when pregnant. I never really had any when pregnant with my son, but my MS wasn’t that bad, ever since i’ve had my son it’s been a little worse.

Also the reason why i’m having another baby is b/c then this way I can start on my medication after he/she is born and get back onto track. Cannot take those shots when trying to get pregnant or during pregnancy!

My best friend has MS and has since before she was pregnant. While she was pregnant her MS symptoms weren’t nearly as bad. She would get the occasional numbness in her legs but nothing that she couldn’t handle. After having her daughter her symptoms just kept getting worse. She has had to get disability due to not being able to work and she has a handicap sticker and a walker because she cannot walk long distances. She is unable to shave her legs due to the amount of pain it causes her. Her neurologist said that this was probably all caused in some part due to the pregnancy. She said it would have eventually gotten worse on it’s own but the pregnancy kind of sped up the process.

MS varies during pregnancy. In general during pregnancy people are "protected" from exacerbations and after pregnancy exacerbations may increase (negating the benefit during pregnancy).

You should discuss the option of treatment with Copaxone through pregnancy (and while you are trying to get pregnant) with your doctor. Copaxone is a Pregnancy class B drug (felt to be safe), Interferons are class C drugs (felt to be unsafe).

    Good luck.
